What Is The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians who are under 65 years old and have a permanent and significant disability; that is, a disability that is likely to last for your lifetime and that affects your ability to complete everyday tasks.

In Victoria, over 100 000 people benefit from participation in the NDIS — for 40 000 of those people, this is the first time they have received the support services they need. We are happy to be a small part of that here in Berwick. The scheme is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency, who help participants develop an NDIS plan that details your personal goals, aspirations and any support you need to get you there.

Participants may only require support in certain areas of their life — travel, for example, or employment and community activities — while others may need more assistance to improve the quality of their everyday lives.

As time passes, your NDIS plan will inevitably change. Having a support coordination expert on your side will allow you to allocate all your funding properly, manage what services you need (and what ones you don’t) and connect you with Berwick service providers.

For people living with disabilities in Berwick, there are many things that you should know and that are going to help you be able to achieve great results in the end. With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, all persons with disabilities should confirm whether they qualify and get registered to receive services that are going to help them lead better lives than they have been living for a long period of time. NDIS has been made possible with the help of state and national governments with the aim of helping people who have permanent and significant disabilities to be able to meet their needs and also access any special equipment that they need.

To begin with, if you are disabled and would like to get NDIS support, you will be required to visit an agent within Berwick in order to come up with a planning meeting. It should be able to serve you well if not perfectly.

You will also be required to visit the representatives once more six weeks before the plan expires to allow you to be able to review your plan for the coming year. Here you will review how the plan has been working for you over the last year and what you would like to achieve over the next year. You can set new goals and try your best to implement them without much of a problem. Basically, NDIS is meant to offer people living with disabilities to lead life more independently without any issues and minimal reliance on others around them.
