The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians who are under 65 years old and have a permanent and significant disability; that is, a disability that is likely to last for your lifetime and that affects your ability to complete everyday tasks.
In Victoria, over 100 000 people benefit from participation in the NDIS — for 40 000 of those people, this is the first time they have received the support services they need. We are happy to be a small part of that here in Ringwood. The scheme is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency, who help participants develop an NDIS plan that details your personal goals, aspirations and any support you need to get you there.
Participants may only require support in certain areas of their life — travel, for example, or employment and community activities — while others may need more assistance to improve the quality of their everyday lives.
As time passes, your NDIS plan will inevitably change. Having a support coordination expert on your side will allow you to allocate all your funding properly, manage what services you need (and what ones you don’t) and connect you with Ringwood service providers.

To access the NDIS, you will need to apply to the National Disability Insurance Agency. Once accepted as a participant, you will work with the agency to come up with a plan that details your goals and the support that is needed to help you on your journey.

Ringwood is a major and diverse city with lots of people living in the city. However, just like other cities in Australia, there are many people living in the city and who are disabled. Though many of the people with disabilities in the city have access to basic facilities, there are many other challenges that they face and which hinder them from being able to live their lives normally as would be expected. As such, the national and local governments have partnered with an aim of providing people with disabilities the opportunity to access services and support of the government through the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Some of the reasons as to why you should consider using the scheme if you have a disability are discussed below.
Among the major aims for you to apply for NDIS is that it is aimed at making sure that people living with permanent or significant disability are provided with the support that they need be it financially, economically, socially or physiological, the scheme will make sure that their needs are properly handled. There are some people who have been faced with a lot of challenges when they are seeking to access such services in Ringwood hence with this scheme, they will receive such support without any issues and without prejudice.
One other advantage is that if you are a person living with a disability in Ringwood, you will be able to determine what kind of support you want and in what way you would like to receive that support. There is nothing more important than being given your own customized support which will help you be able to live your life in the best way possible. There are certain many kinds of disabilities that people have and their needs are all different. Through NDIS they will be able to get support based on each particular case.
People living with disabilities will choose when to receive the support and through what channels. The scheme is unique and allows people with disabilities to determine what they want, when and how they are going to get the support from the government. When you want to get support from the government as a person living with a disability, you will be required to set goals and have a plan that you will work with over a period of one year. This plan must detail what you are aiming at achieving and how the scheme is going to help you achieve those goals.
At the end of the one-year period, you will have the opportunity to consult with the providers or representatives of the NDIS to review if the goals and plans that you made when you started are working right with you. If there is a particular problem that is hindering you from achieving your goals, you will have to consider the necessary changes that you will need to make in order to live a better life. Basically, there are many things that will be considered when you need to be provided with the benefits of the scheme hence you should make sure that your application is properly done.
