What Is The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians who are under 65 years old and have a permanent and significant disability; that is, a disability that is likely to last for your lifetime and that affects your ability to complete everyday tasks.

In Victoria, over 100 000 people benefit from participation in the NDIS — for 40 000 of those people, this is the first time they have received the support services they need. We are happy to be a small part of that here in Windsor. The scheme is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency, who help participants develop an NDIS plan that details your personal goals, aspirations and any support you need to get you there.

Participants may only require support in certain areas of their life — travel, for example, or employment and community activities — while others may need more assistance to improve the quality of their everyday lives.

As time passes, your NDIS plan will inevitably change. Having a support coordination expert on your side will allow you to allocate all your funding properly, manage what services you need (and what ones you don’t) and connect you with Windsor service providers.

If you are a person living with a permanent and significant disability that hinders you to be able to carry out activities in your daily chores, it is important that you consider applying for NDIS in Windsor. Even though you may be getting the help of your family, friends, charities and organizations, the insurance scheme is going to change a lot of lives for the disabled and more so for those that are under privileged. By its introduction, the National Disability Insurance Scheme has a lot of benefits and that is going to see into it that you live a better life and change the perception of how people view people with disabilities. As such, below are some of the most important things that you need to know about this insurance scheme.

There are NDIS officers and representatives in Windsor who are going to help you to be able to make your application and that it will get approved. Even though there are some of the applications that get rejected, it is important to always make sure that things are done the right way from the start to the end. It is important to note that you will not be given NDIS support if you do not meet the criteria that has been set by the government. You will have to be permanently or have a significant disability that renders you unable to carry out activities in your life.

Once you contact the NDIS officer or representative in Windsor, they are going to make sure that they schedule an appointment with you as soon as possible to make sure that your application is done on time. NDIS officers and representatives are well informed about the insurance scheme and can be able to give you all the necessary information that you may need to understand NDIS perfectly well. Though many people have some information about NDIS, it is important to make sure that you have all the facts in place before you can proceed to make an application.

Though the government usually gives people the ability to determine what they need with NDIS, it is always up to the disabled to make sure that you come up with goals and a plan that you are going to use to achieve the goals that you are going to set. To be able to get the government support through NDIS, it is required that you set goals that you intend to achieve and also make sure that you create a personalized plan on how to go about to achieve them during the 12 months period that you will have to implement it.

NDIS also aims at making sure that people living with disabilities are able to lead a more independent life with minimal reliance on other people. For many years, people with disabilities are always faced with problems when they want to do certain tasks as they are not able to do them without the help of others. As such, NDIS is meant to give them the opportunity to be independent and have the freedom to do things they want to do with minimal reliance on others.
