The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians who are under 65 years old and have a permanent and significant disability; that is, a disability that is likely to last for your lifetime and that affects your ability to complete everyday tasks.
In Victoria, over 100 000 people benefit from participation in the NDIS — for 40 000 of those people, this is the first time they have received the support services they need. We are happy to be a small part of that here in Doncaster. The scheme is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency, who help participants develop an NDIS plan that details your personal goals, aspirations and any support you need to get you there.
Participants may only require support in certain areas of their life — travel, for example, or employment and community activities — while others may need more assistance to improve the quality of their everyday lives.
As time passes, your NDIS plan will inevitably change. Having a support coordination expert on your side will allow you to allocate all your funding properly, manage what services you need (and what ones you don’t) and connect you with Doncaster service providers.

To access the NDIS, you will need to apply to the National Disability Insurance Agency. Once accepted as a participant, you will work with the agency to come up with a plan that details your goals and the support that is needed to help you on your journey.

People living with disabilities in Doncaster have a hard time trying to be able to carry out their daily activities. However, through the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme they can now enjoy the independence they have been looking for for a long period of time without any problems. The government has been really concerned with the condition of people living with disabilities hence the only way to make sure that they are comfortable and can be able to lead a better life is by making sure that they are well taken care of. To be able to access the benefits of NDIS, you will be required to meet the following conditions and that are not complicated.
One of the things that you need to know is that to get NDIS you must be an Australian citizen or hold a protected special category visa. There are many people living in Australia who are not citizens and need to know that they will not be covered by the insurance scheme that has been introduced by the government. There are some people who think that through the introduction of NDIS they are going to benefit from it yet they are not citizens of Australia and do not hold a protected special category visa which they can use to get the insurance.
Another important thing that you should do is that you will be required to visit the nearest NDIS representative who is going to help you come up with the goals to set and also decide on what you intend to achieve over a period of 12 months. The first step into being able to access NDIS is making an application which you have to do within a period of time through a representative. The kind of goals that you are going to set are dependent on what you wish to achieve in one year’s time and how you intend to do it. This can only be done by you and no one should force you to set goals that you are not sure of achieving.
It is also important to note that these goals can at times be hard to achieve within this period and your disability can change for the worse. To ensure that everything is working for you, it is required that six weeks before the end of 12 months that you make a visit to your NDIS representative to check on the progress. If it has been working for you just fine, then you can go ahead and create your goals for the next year. If it is not working you can also change the plans and goals to suit your needs for the next period.
There are many people who are going to benefit from NDIS and there are those that are already enjoying the benefits hence there is absolutely no need to be left out. As long as you are a disabled person, you can easily be able to apply for it and be given the support that you may not have had before. It does not matter the kind of disability that you have, where you got it from and for what reason. Make your application today.
